Introducing Hellbenders into Blue River

Community members join the leaders of the Purdue University's Help the Hellbender Project for a 'soft release' of Hellbender salamanders into the Blue River. The hellbender, also known as the hellbender salamander, is a species of aquatic giant salamander endemic to the eastern and central United States. It is the largest salamander in North America. The oxygen rich waters of the Blue River support some of the only populations of hellbenders in Indiana.
