Welcome to summer in Washington County! It’s the perfect time to explore all the things Washington County has to offer! Whether you're craving a quiet walk or bicycle ride along the Monon Trail, the roar of race cars, or shopping and dinner out on the town we have it all.
 


‍Explore the Monon South Trail - Now Open


‍The Monon South Trail section through Salem is now open for walking and cyclists! This section is 2.7 miles in length, all of which is paved. In addition to the trail segment, the Monon South Trail team dedicated the Salem Boxcar earlier in the year. The boxcar will serve as a trailhead landmark for the Monon South Trail in Salem for years to come. Park your car at the Boxcar Trailhead parking area.   

 


Death Traditions and Spiritualism - June 6th

Help the John Hay Center welcome guest speaker Rhiannon Cizon who will be visiting to give a special presentation on traditions surrounding death and burial in the 1800s.


From mourning clothing to hair art, learn how we grew to handle death and grief.

‍Symbolism in Stones - Walking Tour of Crown Hill  - June 7th

A continuation of Rhiannon Cizon’s presentation, join her for a specialized walking tour of our local and historic Crown Hill Cemetery. She will guide us in exploring the different variety of old headstones, their unique markings, and what they mean.

Groove to the rhythm of live music performed by talented local artists. From soulful melodies to foot-tapping beats, the festival will be alive with incredible tunes that will have you dancing in the streets!

‍Cruise N' on the Salem Square - June 13th


‍Local car enthusiasts will have their cars and trucks on display on the Salem square beginning at 5:00pm. Visit the historic Salem Square for dinner and enjoy the classic cars and trucks, hot rods and more.

The story of Lone Star Rodeo began in Marfa, Texas, when Preston Fowlkes, Sr. founded his first rodeo with a vision to bring the cowboy’s lifestyle and rodeo action directly to fans. In 1949, after moving to Franklin, Tennessee, he launched the first Lone Star Rodeo, which quickly gained recognition for its authentic displays of skill and spirit.
