‍The Washington County Tourism Board is committed to the promotion of groups and activities whose actions and functions encourage the growth of tourism and visitors to the county. We look forward to bringing you the most current events in a schedule friendly manner so you can make plans to attend the variety of engaging and entertaining events taking place in Washington County.


‍Jim Smoak Concert and Open House at The Depot - December 2nd

 

‍Make plans to visit The Depot for the annual Jim Smoak concert on December 2nd.  The doors open at 12:00PM (music begins at 1:00pm) and will end at 4:00PM. This event is open to the public, and admission is just a donation to The Depot. This also serves as a Christmas Open House at The Depot Railroad Museum.

About Jim Smoak

Jim Smoak started his career in Knoxville, Tennessee. He moved to Nashville to play with Bill Monroe on the Grand Ole Opry. He did television shows for Martha White Flower with Hylo Brown and The Timberliners. He made recordings with Bill Monroe on Decca Records; with Hylo Brown on Capital Records, and with Arthur (guitar boogie) Smith on MGM Records. He organized folk group, The Cumberlands with their own place of business, The Red Horse Inn in Louisiana.

 


‍Christmas Magic in Salem - December 2nd


A‍ variety of holiday themed events will be taking place around the Salem Square, on the grounds of the John Hay Center including at The Depot. 


‍Showing of Christopher the Christmas Tree - December 5th

‍Make plans to visit the Salem Public Library for the annual showing of Christopher the Christmas Tree on December 5. This is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit!  Call the Library to reserve your space at 812-883-5600.

 

The creative mind behind Christopher the Christmas Tree was George Thomas Bowers of Salem. He unfortunately passed away in 2014. Mr. Bowers created the concept of Christopher the Christmas tree, the story of a lonely tree growing up to be the White House Christmas Tree while working on his family’s Christmas Tree farm north of Salem. In the early 90s, Bowers dream of bringing Christopher to life came when he worked with animator Tim Delaney and his friends to create a 30-minute animated film.

 


‍Showing of The Polar Express at The Depot - December 8th

Don't miss the annual showing of The Polar Express at The Depot. This event is free to the public, but donations are always appreciated. The movie will start at 7:00PM.

 

The Polar Express is the story of a young boy that embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express, while learning about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.

 

Christmas pajamas are welcome! 

 



‍Gingerbread House Program at the Salem Library - December 9th

‍The Salem Public Library invites you to gather your little ones for a Gingerbread house building program. This event is for ages 3 and Up and registrations must be made by 5:00pm on December 8th.

 

There will be two sessions for house building. Each participant will need to bring an unopened bag of candy to share with other participants for house building materials.

 


‍Christmas Parade in Salem - December 16th

Join us this year for another great family friendly event. Brought to you and organized by Titan Tint & Graphics in partnership with Angie Wilson Queen of Taxes.


All proceeds will go to the Washington County Christmas Assistance Program. The parade route has changed this year instead of meeting at the school we will be meeting at Titan Tint & Graphics located at 805 S. Main Street in Salem. Click on the button below for more information.
